Tips

Not putting things away because you can’t find them?
- Stop buying-until you take stock of what you own, don’t bring in anything else.
- When you remove something from your inbox, be sure not to place it back in.
- Deal with it and don’t delay.
- Set aside a file day.
- On this day you can purge, sort, and organize your file system in tip top shape.
- Put cards and letters in a mementos box.
Frustrated that you can’t put your hands on something you’re looking for?
- Create a folder each time you start a new project. This prompts you to file instead of pile.
- Keep a stapler handy. Paperclips tend to attach to other papers in a file.
- Set aside desk time.
- During this hour you can purge, sort, organize and clean the top of your desk.
Overwhelmed when you walk into a cluttered room?
- Quickly purge and organize as much as you can within a specific time frame.
- Set a timer for 10, 15, or 20 minutes.
- Easily distracted?
- Put masking tape on the floor of a small area you’re trying to organize and don’t leave it until you’re done.
- There can sometimes be a sense of loss after removing objects. Focus on:
- your rewards and abundance
- your sense of freedom
- the benefits other people can gain by donating items to charity.
Embarrassed to invite people or dreading unexpected company?
- Be patient and kind with yourself.
- Cancel unwanted and unread subscriptions.
- Don’t let mail/paperwork pile up.
